The Woodland Park American Legion
War and conflicts around the globe have shed new light on the ongoing need to support returning combat veterans. Injuries from combat are not always as clear as Hollywood portrays them. Veterans may suffer from physical disabilities as well as struggle with mental trauma and readjustment issues. Some veterans may be struggling and not even know it themselves. At American Legion Post #238 we are dedicated to serving these veterans. Our membership is 100% comprised and staffed by veterans themselves, who are able to provide in depth insight into the true needs of our brothers and sisters returning home from combat.
At American Legion Post #238, we have created a Special Operations Division, separate from our regular veteran's account, that is specifically designated to benefit the needs of the brave COMBAT veterans who served and who continue to serve, our nation. With the funds we receive we are able to directly effect the men and women who answered the call to duty. This program is the first of its kind and is already shaping up to be a lasting and integral part of our post. Upcoming operations include memorial scholarships in the namesake's of our fallen brothers, given to family members of the fallen and to active duty servicemen who served alongside them, adding to the Memorial where the fallen's names are inscribed, trips and outings for those veterans who struggle with their separation from service, and improving the living conditions for our active duty troops and Marines while they are back on base and in the field. Special Operations has recently been working with the The Destroyers Chapter of the 2nd Marine Division to focus our ops directly at the ground level.
